Leila Doris Jay Kelley of Valentine went to Heaven April 9, 2013. She was 88.

Visitation will be from 10-11:30am today and funeral services follow at 2pm at the Valentine Community Church with Oscar Medley officiating. Burial will be in the Valentine Cemetery.

Doris was born January 13, 1925 in Petersburg, Texas to John Carroll and Mary Gertrude McGothlin Jay.  She graduated from Draughns Business College in 1942 and then went to work as a teller in the Fort Davis State Bank for Warren Bloys.

She married Leonard Roy Kelley on March 20, 1945. They were married 51 years and raised four girls together. Roy and Doris owned and operated Valentine Grocery for many years.

Doris was appointed Postmaster in 1953 and worked at the Valentine Post Office until her retirement in 1990. She served as secretary on the Valentine School Board for 31 years.  She was a long-time member of the Valentine Community Church, the Bloys Campmeeting Association, and the Texas Cattlewomen Association.  After she retired, Doris enjoyed travelling and spending time with her family.

Doris leaves behind her four daughters, Lynda Hollon and husband Mike of Pecos, LaNell Brown and husband Red of Valentine, Leila Cash and husband Jim of Sanderson, and LouAnn Underwood of Valentine; two sisters, Rosalie Thornton of Lubbock and Mae Weaver of Atlanta, Georgia; also 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Roy, two brothers, and three sisters.

Pall bearers will be her grandchildren, Tom Lane, Kelley Brown, Brett Hollon, Nicole Cash Kesselus, Lesley Hollon Moreno, Roy Cash, Wendy Brown-Baeza, Erin Cash-Delgado, Reba Underwood, Mechelle Underwood, and Jay Underwood.

Services are entrusted to Pecos Funeral Home.
