
Agapita Sanchez
Agapita “Aggie” S. Sanchez, 93, of Valentine passed away in El Paso on January 23, 2016.
She was born in Valentine on December 25, 1922 to her parents Miguel and Ysidora Sanchez.
She married the love of her life, Cruz Sanchez, on August 10, 1941 in Valentine. Together they had three children: Victor, Velma and Irma. She provided great support to all her family. She was known for her warm hospitality, and her huge, home-cooked meals.
Aggie was a lifelong resident of Valentine, where she worked 20 years running a café, and the rest of her years as a homemaker. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and loved to help with what was needed.
Her interests included family, attending her houseplants, sewing, and reading. Much of her time and energy was devoted to taking care of family. Aggie will be greatly missed by all her friends and family.
Her surviving relatives are her two sons, Victor Sanchez and Ricky Sanchez, both of El Paso; her two daughters, Velma Gonzales of Chicago, Illinois and Irma Ornelas of Valentine; her brother, Lucas Sanchez of Alpine; and her four sisters, Lydia Moreno of Garden Grove, California, Drucila Rivera of Fort Stockton, Jane Peña of Van Horn, and Armida Best of Houston; also five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cruz Sanchez; her parents, Miguel and Ysidora Sanchez; and her sisters, Mckaly “Micky” Villegas and Eloisa Barraza.
A memorial Mass was February 13 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Valentine, officiated by Father Saul Pacheco. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Valentine.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home of Van Horn.
