
Joe Jiner
Marfa native Joe V. Jiner passed away January 8, 2017 in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Mr. Jiner retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years of service. He was honored to serve on the USS Iowa, USS Pittsburgh, USS Rochester, USS Vermillion, and several more USS naval ships in his career from 1945 to 1966.
He also retired from the City of Chesapeake.
He was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 327, VFW Ocean View Post 3160, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 60, and the Ocean View Democratic Social Club.
He was the widower of Nellie G. Jiner. He had four children, Carolyn Thomas (Hal) of Chesapeake, Joe H. Jiner of Aurora, Colorado, Kenneth R. Adams (Carol) of Crockett, California, and Fred Dail (deceased); a daughter-in-law, Laverne Dail; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Cruz Jiner Silvey of Santa Fe, Texas.
Along with his son, Fred, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Ida Keith, Lita Keith, Lila Bookman, Carmen Jiner, and Mercie Urias.
The funeral service was the afternoon of Monday, January 16 at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial was in Rosewood Memorial Park. The Rev. Tom Mercer officiated. The family received friends the afternoon of Sunday, January 15 at the funeral home.
