Anita Hernandez

Anita Abelina Hernandez, a lifelong resident of Marfa, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 24, 2017. She was 80.

Rosary for Anita will be recited at 10am Saturday, September 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and Mass of Christian Burial will follow, with Father Beto Lopez serving as Celebrant. Burial will be in La Merced Cemetery in Marfa.

Anita was born on September 5, 1937 to Marciano Hernandez and Concepcion Ricon Hernandez in Marfa.

Anita was like a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews, always there to support them in their extracurricular activities.

Anita worked for years as a cook at Mando’s Restaurant, where she loved to cook for friends, and new friends that she met as they traveled through Marfa.

Anita also enjoyed cooking for her own family for birthdays, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. She enjoyed shopping at the local Dollar store and driving around town with her beloved pets.

Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Alice H. Rivera of Marfa, several nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Enriqueta Hernandez, Helen H. Gonzalez, Josephina H. Lujan, Ofelia H. Sotelo, Esperanza Ramirez; and her two brothers, Alfredo Hernandez and Kilo Hernandez, and recently her niece Genie Gonzales who lived with her.

The Hernandez Family has entrusted Alpine Memorial Funeral Home with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.alpinememorialfuneralhome.com.
