Ofelia G. Valadez, a longtime Alpine resident, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013.

Ofelia Valadez

Rosary will be recited at 7pm Friday, September 20 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine. Funeral Mass is 10am Saturday, September 21 at the church with burial in Holy Angels Cemetery

Miss Valadez was born in Alpine and was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Peace.

Alpine was always the place she loved. Tia Ofeila never met a stranger, and when she did, she was always ready to tell them where she was from when asked.  She would always say, “I am from Alpine, Texas.” She also never liked to reveal her age, so when she was asked, you always got “quince, quince, quince” (15, 15, 15).

She is survived by her sisters, Leonor G. Valadez of El Paso and Concepcion (Concha) V. Rodriguez of Fort Stockton, her brothers Thomas (Junior) Valadez of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Federico (Freddy) Valadez of Virginia; also numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Carrasco and Juanita Gallego Valadez; her brothers, Father Jose G., Robert (Beto), Manuel (Lito), Luis G (Wicho); and sisters Sister Maria Asuncion, Maria Fierro Joyola, and Bertha V. Ogas.

The family thanks BJ, Josefina, Celestina, Angie, and all the people, clergy, medical providers, caregivers, neighbors, relatives and friends who came by, sent her a card, or called her. It made her feel safe and happy. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and may Jesus, Mary and Joseph bless you all.

One of her favorite prayers was the Guardian Angel Prayer:

Ángel de la guarda, mi dulce compañía, no me desampares, ni de noche ni de día, no me dejes solo que me perdería, ni vivir, ni morir en pecado mortal, Jesús es la vida, Jesús en la muerte, Jesús para siempre. Amen. Gracias.
