Jeff Davis County rancher and Marfa National Bank director William Allen “Bill” Gearhart, 67, died Monday, November 4, 2013.
A memorial service is 11am Friday, November 15 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marfa following a private family burial.
He was born September 9, 1946 and most recently lived in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. He spent most of his life ranching in Valentine and Montana. Bill attended school in Valentine and the New Mexico Military Institute. He served two years in the United State Army.
With strong family ties and values, he shared his abilities with cattle organizations, his community, and church. Bill was a past director of the Montana Cattlemen’s Association, the Davis Mountains TransPecos Heritage Association, and the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He was a former Jeff Davis County commissioner, an elder in the Presbyterian Church, and was a Marfa National Bank director for 33 years.
After moving to Cloudcroft, he joined the Cloudcroft United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha; a son, Paul; and the love of his life, granddaughter Bethanee; a sister, Jessica McInnis and her husband Bill; a nephew, Ben McInnis and wife Rachel; a niece, Rachel Myers and husband Scott; and four great-nephews, Levi and Ty McInnis and Brooks and Reece Myers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mary Martha Gearhart; and his sister, Tai Gearhart.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Children’s Home in Austin, Texas or the West Texas Boy’s Ranch in San Angelo, Texas.
