Freddy J. Jaquez, 66, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at his home in Alpine.

Rosary service will be at 10am Saturday, March 21 with Mass to follow at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. The date and time of burial in Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso is to be announced.

Freddy was the fifth of 11 children, born in Alpine on December 30, 1948, and was a lifelong resident of the area, a longtime member of the Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a proud combat veteran of the U.S. Army. In 1968, he was drafted and served in the Vietnam War. In 1988 he enlisted in the U.S. National Guard. In 2005, at the age of 57, America once again called Freddy to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Freddy retired from the U.S. Army National Guard.

He is survived by brothers Ruben Jaquez of Cibolo, Texas, Jesus Jaquez (Jesusita) of Midland, and Joe Jaquez (Patsy) of Bakersfield, California; sisters Rosa Edwards of Onalaska, Texas, Sally Rodriguez (Frank) of Alpine, and Linda Melendez (Ralph) of Lawrenceville, Gerogia; also numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bonifacio Jaquez Sr. (1987) and Maria Jaquez (2004); his brothers Pablo (2002) and Bonifacio Jaquez Jr. (2014).

Pallbearers are J.J. Espinosa, Eddie Vega, Anselmo Reyes, Frank Rodriguez Jr., Brian Jaquez, and Mauricio Cordova Jr.

Alpine Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
