Martin Leyva

Martin “El Güero” Leyva, 87, of Odessa, passed from this life on Saturday, July 23, 2016 in Odessa.

He was born in Hacienda de Orientales, Mexico on Tuesday, January 29, 1929 to the late Felix and Eufemia Armendariz Leyva.

For many years, Mr. Leyva lived in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico and commuted to the Permian Basin to work construction.

Those left to cherish his love and memories are three sons, David and Remigio Leyva, both of Odessa, and Joel Leyva of Presidio; five daughters, Flor Carrasco, Edelmira Renteria, Letty Carrasco, Corina Leyva and Vilma Muñoz, all of Odessa; a brother, Ruben Leyva of Fort Stockton; four sisters, Lourdes Marquez of Lovington, New Mexico, Librada Lujan of Midland, Merced Leyva of Ojinaga, and Clara Hernandez of Odessa; also 24 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Francisca Leyva, who died this past May; his parents; his brothers, Ramon, Aurelio, and Natividad Leyva; and a sister, Catalina Lujan.

Pallbearers are Hector Anaya, Javier Carrasco, Severo Carrasco, Melissa Chapa, Remy Leyva, and Thalia Muñoz.

Rosary was recited Sunday, July 24 at Acres West Funeral Chapel and a Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, July 25 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Burial was in the Odessa II Section of the Ector County Cemetery.
