Ramon Fuentes
Longtime Marfa resident and military veteran Ramon V. Fuentes Jr., 67, passed away September 6, 2017 in an El Paso care facility.
He was born October 7, 1949 in Lamesa, Texas to Ramon Q. Fuentes Sr. and Adelaida Villanueva Fuentes, a Marfa native.
The family moved to Marfa when Ramon was young and later moved to Socorro, New Mexico, where he graduated from high school. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served as military police during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged.
Ramon was a heavy equipment operator, and he worked construction in El Paso, Dallas, and Oklahoma. He returned to Marfa about 35 years ago.
Survivors include his mother; a sister, Anna Hinojos; and a brother, Arturo Fuentes, all of El Paso.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a son, Jacob Fuentes of El Paso.
A memorial and burial with full military honors will take place in Marfa at a later date.
